Phase # 3 The Planting of Trees, Shrubs and Plants |
"We feel a great responsibility to reflect nature in all aspects of our projects. The principles of natural landscaping apply across all sizes of projects."
- Mackia Land Design |
Mackia Land Design executed this project in four phases. This article takes a look at phase #3 - Planting Day. With the front yard complete and the swimming pool and spa in place it was now time to plant the beds in the backyard. The design involved a few well placed trees with supporting shrubs and flowering perennials to add color and variety. Needed site work was also done, along with the placement of landscape rocks.

The drawings for the design are carefully followed when planting day comes. Mackia Land Design's landscape artist Ric Liesch is personally on hand to make sure his design gets translated from paper into the actual planting and arranging.
The knowledge and expertise of Mackia's team of landscape contractors is crucial for knowing where and how deep to plant each kind of shrub, plant and tree to ensure the successful establishment of their roots . |

As trees are planted, the design takes shape. Careful thought is given to each species that is chosen. Knowledge about how tall the trees will grow and how wide they will spread prevents costly mistakes when they become too big for their location.
The whole idea is not just to create an instant landscape that is beautiful, but to create a natural landscape that will sustain balance and will continue to be enhanced as it matures and grows. |

Part of the hardscape that really adds to the natural look of Mackia's design are the various stairs that are constructed with rock slabs. The mid-stair landings and walkways are wet laid with flagstone to provide a semblance of permanence through one continuous element.
The curve on these steps creates an unforced look that draws your eye up to the next terrace. The slabs also interface nicely with the neighboring gardens which house their own rocks and boulders. |
