For years, options for your front door and entranceway were very limited. Most front doors, understandably
so, were wood. Although maintenance and longevity
were issues, these doors have always been, and remain,
an attractive choice. The more energy conscious consumer
who didn't have an objection to the cold appearance
of steel doors, saved more than their initial investment
in maintenance, replacement and energy costs.
Times have changed though, and today the industries
that provide entrance doors recognize the consumer
interest in having a variety of eye pleasing options.
As competition in this area grows, the latest designs
continue to improve, combining the best elements of
style with advancements in technology.

Fiberglass Option
One specific area where this advancement is manifest is in the production of energy efficient, fiberglass doors. As with steel doors, the appearance of these
doors used to be their biggest draw back. However,
with more recent wood-look versions it is often difficult
to immediately see that they are not real wood. Many
come in a variety of 'grains' from the traditional
dark to red mahogany to light blondes. Fiberglass
entrance doors also offer the practicality and low
maintenance of a manufactured product. The resistant
surface guards against the usual complaints associated
with wood, such as cracking, splitting or warping.

| A polyurethane foam core, similar to the system used
in garage doors, can raise the insulation value of a
fiberglass door to that of five times that of wood.
To add additional strength and stability to fiberglass,
manufacturers have added a wood lock stile the full
length of some doors.
