If your bathroom feel tired and needs reviving, but you just don’t have the money for a total bathroom remodel right now, you can rest assured that giving your bathroom a facelift may be easier than you thought.
Here are eight tips to help you give your bathroom a whole new look:
Clean
Clear out all the moveable furniture and cabinets and give the bathroom a top to bottom clean. Get into all the nooks and crannies that you haven’t cleaned for ages. Go through your cupboards and get rid of old beauty products and anything past its expiry date. You’ll be surprised how much more storage space you have.
Set a budget
Be realistic about how much you are willing to spend and then stick to the plan. It’s easy for even the most simple home improvement project to spin out of control. That doesn’t have to mean all expensive splurges are out of the picture, just that you carefully plan for the big ticket item to fit in with everything else you hope to do.
Replace what you can
Even if you can’t afford to replace the tub, toilet and vanity, smaller changes can make a huge difference to the overall look. A new glass-fronted cabinet will give the space a more crisp and contemporary style. A brushed metal towel rack will look great. And you’ll be surprised how inexpensive a beautiful new faucet can be.
Paint
Nothing changes the look of a space more than color. A light aqua blue can give your bathroom a lovely spa feel. A bright red wall will energize you in the morning. Sea green will make the space a relaxing retreat. If you don’t want bright color on the walls then go neutral and save the splashes of color for the accessories.
Accessorize
Once you know what your wall color will be you can choose your accessories. Pick a theme or color — or both — and hit the stores looking for small pieces to liven up the space. Buy a metal shelf and stack lots of fluffy, folded white towels on it. They’ll give the room a luxurious, hotel feel.
Consider a new floor
Unless your bathroom is really large, replacing the flooring doesn’t need to cost a lot of money. If your floor is really awful but you just don’t have the budget to replace it, peel and stick vinyl tiles will pull you through until you can afford the material you really want.
Change the lighting
Many bathrooms suffer from either too little or too much light. Very few get it right. You want to have the ability for soft, relaxing lighting for when you want to unwind in the tub, as well as have good lighting for the mourning routine. Have an electrician install a dimmer switch if you don’t already have one.
